The Rio Minero Backcountry Hunt

Wild Country. Real Hunts. Twelve Tags a Year.

90% success rate

The Rio Minero Backcountry hunt is Southern Stag’s most exclusive package — red stag hunting deep in Nahuel Huapi National Park, guided by local gauchos who lead you on a five-hour horseback ride into rugged, untouched terrain. Just four hunters per turn, twelve tags per year. This is Patagonia at its wildest — hunting by day, campfire by night.

 ITINERARY & OPTIONS

Day 1: Arrive in Bariloche and transfer to zone

Fly from Buenos Aires to Bariloche, where your Southern Stag concierge will meet you. From there, travel about two hours to base camp, settle into the mountain cabin, and prepare for the days ahead.

Day 2: Prep Horses and Pack Out

After breakfast, we prepare horses and load gear for the journey ahead. Once packed, we depart base camp and ride approximately 4–6 hours on horseback into remote country, arriving at camp in the afternoon and settling in for the evening.

Days 3- 7: Hunt the Southern Andes

In the heart of the Andes, steep peaks and deep valleys create multiple hunting approaches. Days follow a steady rhythm of morning and evening hunts, ending with a traditional Argentine gaucho-style meal around the fire. Hunters who finish early can return to the base estancia, and a rental vehicle is recommended for exploring the surrounding area.Select 43 more words to run Humanizer.

Day 9: Shuttle to Bariloche and catch returning flight

On the final day, a scheduled transfer with the Southern Stag team brings you back to Bariloche Airport in time to connect with your overnight flight home via Buenos Aires — with time along the way to reflect on and reminisce about your experience with Southern Stag.
